Black jack, as most games, was not created at a particular time. The French word for "21", Vingt-et-un, gave the name to one of black jack versions.(and the game is still called 21sometimes). With French colonists the game came to North America and then made its expansion all over America.
It was near 1800 that the black jack history began in the states. When first introduced the game was hardly popular among the Americans. Initially the gambling saloons invented different bonus payouts to attract the players. One of these bonuses was a payout of 10 to 1 in case your hand contained a black Jack and the Ace of Spades. Evidently they called this hand a "black jack" and so the name clung. Now this is the inherent part of the history of black jack.
Then till 1919 special tables for Black jack were being made and Black jack gained by 1931 the third place on popularity among casino games after Roulette and Craps. It was soon realized by Professional gamblers that Black jack is a great playing sphere for manipulating easily the odds and bets.
Either the science didn't avoid such gambling phenomenon as Blackjack. The late fifties' scientists got tremendously interested in Black jack. As in mathematic terms this isn't a simple game, and computing the favorable strategies engaged the minds of some math’s and statistics scholars of the époque.
